The Hellenic Society of Gene Therapy and Regenerative Medicine was created on June 29, 2014 in Volos, at a meeting of the founding members.
Main goal
The main goal of the founders was the gathering and coordination of scientists working in small groups or individually in the Greek area, their contact on a regular basis with Greeks abroad and the promotion of all the activities of the members and science in the fields of Gene Therapy, of Cellular Therapy, Regenerative Medicine as well as advanced therapy medicinal products.
The first Board of Directors
The seven-member Steering Committee registered members and proceeded with the legal recognition of the Society and the holding of the first elections for the nomination of the members of the Board of Directors.
Members of the Society
a) Regular members are registered Scientists (Physicians, Biologists, Biochemists, Pharmacists, Chemists, Laboratory Technologists, nurses of University-level education and other Bioscientists) who are employed on a permanent basis in the field of Gene and/or Cell Therapy and/or Regenerative Medicine in Greece. Scientists of Greek origin who are employed abroad on a permanent basis in the field of Gene and/or Cell Therapy and/or Regenerative Medicine are registered as Regular members.
b) Corresponding members are registered doctors and other scientists in Greece who are employed in related or collaborating fields with Gene and/or Cell Therapy and/or Regenerative Medicine. Medical specialists are registered as corresponding members. Undergraduate or postgraduate students in a master's, PhD or in a research study of the object of the Society are registered as corresponding members. Physicians and other foreign scientists of non-Greek origin, who are proven to be employed in the field of Gene and/or Cell Therapy and/or Regenerative Medicine, are registered as corresponding members.
c) Supporting members are natural or legal persons who have provided significant financial support to the Society. Supporting members are called either simple members, donors, benefactors, or major benefactors. The duration of the donor, benefactor and major benefactor status is temporary. It is set for the following calendar year of the financial aid. The Board of Directors defines the amounts that make natural or legal persons simple members, donors, benefactors, or major benefactors.
By any appropriate means, the utilization to the highest degree of specialization in Gene and Cell Therapy and Regenerative Medicine for the benefit of science, society and patients.
The continuous updating and training of physicians and other scientists of various specialties in the subjects of Gene and Cell Therapy, Regenerative Medicine and advanced treatment drugs to help more effectively deal with medical problems of the population.
Informing the public opinion and every authority with every available means (print, electronic) about the importance of treating various diseases with scientific approaches and strategies of Gene and Cell Therapy, Regenerative Medicine and the drugs of advanced treatments.
Adherence to the rules deriving from Medical Ethics.
The contribution and cooperation of foreign scientists and organizations in the Society's activities.
Purpose of the Society
The general support of the research field and the study of all objects, which includes Gene Therapy, Cell Therapy, Regenerative Medicine, as well as advanced therapy medicinal products, such as gene therapy drugs, somatic cell therapy products, tissue engineering, combination drugs of advanced therapies and so on.
The promotion of professional and public education, the development, implementation and supervision of continuing and postgraduate education programs in all areas of Gene Therapy and Cell Therapy, Regenerative Medicine, including advanced therapy drugs.
